Sometimes clip art just won't do the job and it becomes necessary to come up with art from scratch. It's usually not as scary as you think because I often draw faster than you might expect—and when I've got a customer on the clock, I cheat shamelessly in as many ways possible to save time.

Drawing real people and things requires a photo or the actual item as a reference. I use whatever tools that seem appropriate for the job: pencils and pens the old fashioned way, computer, or most likely a combination. I feel most comfortable in general with organic subjects and shapes, but am not limited to them. On occasion, if something seems really outside my area, I might sub out to another artist whose style or expertise is better suited.
