To Meme, With Love

original watercolor, 18 x 24

We found this old photograph, taken when my husband's grandmother was about 17. Everybody called her Meme, and she was widely known for her hospitality. I never learned the skills that seemed to come so easily to her, but I was always grateful for how she made me feel at ease when I was a new bride 2000 miles away from home. The book the photographer used as a prop has been given the title as an inscription in the painting, a special dedication to a special lady. My husband said he'd pay me to never sell this painting, so I agreed. I have yet to see the check.
