Mother Gus

original watercolor, 16 x 22

This was painted from a photograph of somebody else's relative. The somebody else was named Gus, and I always took liberties with the name and referred to this painting as Mother Goose, but what sense would that make to anybody else? Mother Gus at least has a ring of some kind of probability to it. It was a black and white photograph with dramatic, almost spooky shadows, and it was fun to use a lot of subtle colors to make the white of her dress.
